Igloo Trailmate Cooler Review: Feature Packed, MASSIVE Wheels

We built our up-for-anything cooler so it’ll roll right over rough terrain like it’s on a paved path. The Igloo Trailmate Journey is a burly, wheeled cooler with a 70qt capacity. Keep 112 beverage cans cold in this cooler, which has two oversized rugged wheels, a telescoping handle, and built-in bottle openers. The maximum capacity of these coolers is the same as they cannot hold more than 70 quarts or oz beverage cans. The Marine and Journey models offer excellent storage features, as both coolers have a modular butler tray with two built-in cup holders. One of the major selling points of the Igloo Trailmate, in our eyes, is the myriad of features that come standard with this cooler.

Yeah, this just seems like they made something to look cool and do something different with coolers, but that it’s not all that functional. I’ve seen a lot of aftermarket wheeled carts you can buy for the heavy rotomolded coolers with the handles like this. What a pain to be dragging all of that weight while also lifting it.

And combine with the fact that they are never-flats, you have a great mobility solution that is designed to last. While we always prefer more size options, if we had to choose just one size, a 70-quart is pretty good. It is large enough to fit all of the food and drinks for a decent-sized group while still not being overly large to the point that it is a challenge to transport and store.

igloo trailmate Retention – Insulated body and lid provide up to 4 days of ice retention. Optionally, you can get a bicycle attachment for this cooler if you want to keep the supplies you get at the market fresh. The manufacturer offers a 5-year warranty for all versions of the RollR cooler, which somewhat justifies the steep price. Besides the size, relatively limited ice retention capacity or a basic latch system can also be reasons why you want to consider some of the Igloo Trailmate cooler alternatives. Despite an affordable price tag, the one-year warranty period seems underwhelming.

While you will pay more for the Trailmate than most other Igloo products, we still feel that it is a bargain for what you are getting. The sheer number of great accessories justifies a lot of this higher asking price and even as a simple cooler, it does a decent enough job to not make us gasp too much at the asking price. Not rotomolded so less ice life, Only one size to choose from. We’ve discussed many of the Igloo Trailmate’s features related to convenience and usability. Thankfully, Igloo has thought about that as well and implemented various measures to make these coolers up to the challenge.

Some may find this igloo trailmate point to be steep, but a comparison of a similar sized roto molded cooler will reveal the value. For example, the Yeti 75 is nearly $200 more expensive and does not have wheels nor the added features as outlined above. It goes without saying that the Trailmate is the perfect beach, tailgating or surf fishing cooler capable of handling rugged terrain at a reasonable price. Igloo Trailmate Journey 70 Cooler – Gray/Black – With Trailmate, nothing gets in fun’s way. Igloo built an up-for-anything cooler so it’ll roll right over rough terrain like it’s on a paved path.

They pioneered the roto-molded cooler industry and make some of the highest quality coolers on the market. The Igloo Trailmate has some pretty amazing features which we talked about above, but it isn’t a perfect cooler . Each Igloo Trailmate also comes with a dry food basket for the inside of the cooler. Put in your fishing rod and wait while you crack open a beer or use your cooler to stabilize your umbrella when you’re at the beach or having a picnic.

This is much cheaper than coolers like Yeti, but it’s much more expensive than a cheaper cooler like the Coleman Xtreme. The lid has moulded in bungee chord loops that can be used so you can attach extra items to the lid of your cooler. The Trailmate has not one but two bottle openers, one on each side. This is a good little feature and means you’ll never have to worry about taking a bottle opener with you. The cooler is raised off the ground by it’s wheels as well as the skid rails and non-slip rubber feet.
