Your tent won’t be air-conditioned, and things can get stuffy once you pack it full of people. Newer tents build in vents and roofs that you can open up to promote airflow, along with the mesh windows that will let in air when you choose. Some tents are also built to keep out the sun’s rays, making them great for those who like midday naps on vacation.
If used for families, this is a coleman screen tent for parents and two kids maximum. Whether that means poles are pre-attached and pop into place or a full-on pop-up design out of the bag, depends on what type of instant tent it is. You’ll also have plenty of ventilation on hot nights and protection from mosquitoes.
This tent is unique from other tents because it’s compatible with the Teton Sports XXL Camping Cot. You can set it up on top of the cot and cover it entirely with the Elite Rainfly. And when you want a nice breeze or you’re camping with beautiful views, unzip the windows on every wall.
Yourself— gets inside the tent easily and it definitely won’t withstand torrential rain. Although this is a good tent for warm weather camping, it’ll be no good for rainy weather. The tent fits two queen mattresses, letting the kids take one and the parents take the other. Or if you’re with friends, you can sleep two adults to a mattress with relative comfort, so long as the friends are willing to share.
You should also be aware that tents with integrated rain flies can often be problematic. As far as ventilation is concerned, the only tent we recommend that has an integrated rain fly is the Coleman Instant Tent. The Night Cat came close to getting our endorsement, but cheap components prevented it from being an editor’s choice. This is an extra roomy tent for a four-person family, with plenty of space. However, due to the shape, it seemed impossible for this tent to actually fit five people as the manufacturer claims. What’s more, the odd shape made it challenging to add an air mattress or inflatable sleeping pads.
There’s also no room divider, but this was less of a priority given the lack of entryways. Our other main issue was the lack of a vestibule, which means that in the case of a sudden rainstorm, there will be no dry area to store your wet clothes before entering the tent. And although we did like the two deployable vents on the roof, you’ll want to make sure to keep those closed if the weather is at all questionable since they are liable to let rain into the tent. I agree with the last reviewer…tent looks good, setup is really nice, but the plastic corner brackets break way too easy, metal ones and this tent would be awesome.
No one wants to deal with a complicated camp setup when you have kids to watch after. The Coleman 6 person instant cabin tent is incredibly easy to carry. Our main issue with the integrated rainfly is that we lose all ventilation when there’s risk of rain, but there is a slight solution to this. For an additional $28, Coleman offers a secondary rainfly accessory made of Polyguard 2X that straps to the top and allows you to have open vents without getting your stuff soaked.
who plan to use the tent in moderate to strong winds should look for a site that is sheltered from wind. The back bedroom windows zip up the sides and across the top and thus seal completely. These new tents are marked “Instant Cabin” on the label, while the various lines of original Instant Tents are marked “Instant Tent”. For 2014 Coleman has introduced several Instant Cabin lines, which are available in the same 4 sizes as the original Instant Tents 4, 6, 8 & 10.

As it costs less than $20 USD, it’s pretty much a no-brainer to add a level of comfort that could otherwise spoil your camping adventure if you went without it. Double thick, durable polyester fabric makes up the canopy and integrated fly, and you also get Coleman’s high-quality Weathertec system. Well with a thorough look over and test, we don’t think so, but for sure one of the more favorable features on any product is a modest price tag.
