Universal eBike Conversion Kit

It arrived a week later and after we got it assembled and charged up, I took it for a ride. The Lectric XP has several features the Schwinn lacked — a headlight and tail light for starters. It has a 48 volt battery instead of 36 volt, a real display screen instead of a few LED lights that are invisible in the daylight, and a 300 watt hub motor instead of 250 watt. It has 5 assist modes instead of three and a throttle that lets you use the motor to get started from rest without pedaling. Even though this electric bike offers 24 speeds (and thus has grip shifters on the left and right handle bars) the cockpit is relatively clean. The grips are comfortable, the brake levers work fine with the Tektro rim brakes and the display console and thumb throttle are easy to reach and use.

And everyone is commenting on how beautiful the bike is.” — Harry G.“[The Marshall] has an attractive sleek design and color (blue). The additional bottom frame light sets it apart from the look of other bikes at night and really helps alert drivers of your presence on the road…” — Jevvin B.“I absolutely LOVE my Schwinn Electric! It’s beautiful and the smoothest ride I’ve ever taken. I’ve tried them all and by far, the Schwinn outshines them all!

Again, most e-bikes out there are Class 2 and only assist up to 20 mph. Just make sure to check the specifications of the e-bike you want to ride and the regulations in your area. Once you have that, you’re ready for all the e-bike adventures you please. The Mendocino and Mendocino 2 are cruiser e-bikes with step-thru frames. Best for riding on pavement, the Mendocino includes pedal assist, while the Mendocino 2 includes both pedal assist and throttle up to 20 MPH. Both versions can go up to 45 miles per charge, and include fenders and a rear rack.

I only use the electric power when struggling up hill. I’m thrilled with my new electric bike.” — Melissa H.“Love this bike! It gets us out of the house and enjoy[ing] life.” — Kelly M.“Love my Electric Bike I had pretty much given up on bike rides with the hills in my neighborhood until I purchased my Schwinn electric bike. Now I still get the exercise I need and have the assist when needed.” — Michael S.“Great machine, nice to have assistance when needed, I can get as much exercise as I want! Powering the motor and LED display console is an average sized 36 volt 11.6 amp hour battery pack that is mounted to the downtube. Do be careful of the wire brake line, which is run along the base of the top tube, because it could get snagged or rub into the frame and scratch it over time.

This helps keep the battery dry if you get caught out in the rain. Overall, I think Schwinn needs to better balance its approach when it comes to the motor and how hard it pushes, especially when it has a full charge. Once I rigged up my kids’ old trailer into a cargo trailer, I could transport even more from the grocery store.

The Schwinn Coston CE falls in the middle of its e-bike model line, offering a slight upgrade over the Schwinn Marshall but without some of the features found on the higher-end Coston DC. The star of the show is its connectivity and functionality with third-party training apps like Peloton, Zwift, and JRNY. Additionally, this bike comes with loads of user-friendly features that help to enhance your workout experience. If manual workouts aren’t exciting enough for you, you have the option of connecting your device via Bluetooth and using apps like Peloton, Zwift, and JRNY. These apps all have a monthly fee but are well worth the cost to have access to thousands of live and on-demand studio classes on Peloton or the interactive virtual training world of Zwift.

To be fair, not many competing e-bikes tend to come with these extras anyway, so with its comparatively low price, you’ll have extra money to pick out the accessories you want. Despite my weight and the strain it put on the motor, I found that the bike really does have a 45-mile range on a single charge. I didn’t have a chance to precisely time how long the battery takes to charge from empty but it recharged completely overnight or during a full workday.

If you’re looking for a solid ebike to help you get around on-road and off, definitely check out the Schwinn Marshall. I like how the Marshall is a bit more upright than a standard mountain bike but in a better position for standing than a cruiser. The up and down are mostly for adjusting the pedal schwinn beach cruiser assist levels up and down. The motor stops assisting when you hit 32 km/h (20mph) with the throttle or pedalling. You can still pedal faster but the motor won’t assist.
