Frederick would soon bring on Latvian immigrant Charles Peterson, and they went about renovating their styles and beginning a brand new way to think about and craft a tobacco pipe. It was at this time that the company became aware of how the social role of the pipe was changing. From being a tool that was almost “necessary” and commonly used, it was slowly becoming a specially chosen, cherished object, and the type of users were also becoming more motivated. Thus, in order to keep this changing clientele, innovative models were created to arouse their curiosity, and also to encourage them to collect all the models in a certain series. In other words, an updated business policy which was a marketing ploy that was in line with the general evolution of tastes, thanks to which the astute manufacturers succeeded in remaining highly competitive.

Still on the subjects of stamps, it is worth looking at the capital “P” of Peterson stamped on the pipes. Throughout the years the style of the letter has changed three times. Peterson pipes are beautiful and carved for both aesthetics and immense smoking pleasure for both the experienced pipe smoker and the beginner. The former well known Peterson pipe shop on Grafton Street, Dublin has now closed and has been replaced by another, which is located a short distance away at 48 Nassau Street, Dublin 2. The new shop, formerly the John Morton Jewellers and Silversmiths, first opened its doors in 1875. This firm featured in the news when a Celtic salver with the special commemorative hallmark of ‘An Claidheamh Soluis’ (Sword of Light) to mark the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising of 1916, went for sale on Ebay.

When the Kapp brothers did eventually come of age, Alfred Kapp and Charles Peterson bought out Christian’s shareholding and renamed the business Kapp & Peterson. The Peterson brand of pipes are one of the most recognised in the world. They have been manufacturing pipes as a business in chacom tobacco pipes Ireland since the 19th century. Today the business is owned and managed by Tom Palmer from their head office at the Sallynoggin factory in Dublin, Ireland. The sump pit on a system pipe can be cleaned with a QTip swab or piece of rolled up paper towel, likewise preferably dipped in alcohol before use. If you suspect the sump pit contains a significant amount of liquid, remove the mouthpiece, dump the liquid, and reassemble.
