These lanterns are in Paul Elgin’s collection. We believe this lantern is a Model 221, a kerosene fueled version of their Model 220 above . The fuel pickup is a simple tube and there is a supplementary generator heater threaded into the mixing chamber casting . After preheating with a torch, a row of small flames come out of the rear of the heater, directed at the upper part of the Q77 generator. This lantern, in Dean Dorholt’s collection, is date stamped April 1929 . Model E20, the Quick-Lite Jumbo Gas Lantern, with a built-on pump , and the Quick-Lite Poultry House Lantern, without a pump ,both featured a 1 gallon fuel tank.
This lantern is in Dwayne Hanson’s collection. The first pumps on Quick-Lite lanterns were “built-on” rather than “built into” the founts. This L427 lantern, in John Stendahl’s collection, is date stamped May, 1925, and has the pump top with the rounded handle.
This lantern, in Michael Flatt’s collection, lacks embossing and stamping except for CLOSE and an arrow on the Bakelite valve wheel and the patent dates on the back of the air tube. The baffle plate is unplated steel rather than nickel plated brass and lacks Sunshine Products stamping. Dual fuel lanterns can run on gasoline, but gasoline burns much dirtier than white gas.
