However, businesses and business conditions change, thus the information contained here is subject to change without the knowledge of the Ozark Trail Association. I bought this pack recently on a whim while shopping Walmart. I needed a day pack and didn’t really have lots of time to search at REI for the various styles provided having only gone to one store. This daypack ended up being the cheapest after a quick perusal.
Proper waist adjustment is also crucial for even weight distribution, as the backpack should sit comfortably around the waist without pulling on the shoulders. Our sister site Alloutdoor.com recently reviewed a hiking backpack sold by Ozark Trail that had an overall stellar performance and it triggered a question among our staff. Is Walmart’s Ozark Trail brand a true sleeper, putting out products that deserve much more attention among outdoorsmen? With that question being floated, we decided to travel down the path of discovery and start to take a closer look at Ozark Trail and some of their products. We just completed a review of the Ozark Trail Tumbler line, which is not only budget friendly but also well performing. Includes compression straps on the sides to keep your gear stable.
In the following paragraphs I share just a few design features that, in my opinion, make this a well-designed product. Be aware, this is a daypack, intended for lighter loads and shorter distances. It isn’t built to be on your back 8 hours a day, and it won’t support 25 pounds. Used for its intended purpose, this is one of the best hiking/backpacking deals I’ve ever come across.
The route extends from the St. Louis metropolitan area southwest through the Ozarks. The coolers remained in the same location for the duration of the 6 day test, only being opened to snap daily progress pictures. The coolers in competition were the ozark trail backpack Ozark Trail 45QT Rolling Thermocooler, The Pelican 45QW Elite Wheeled Cooler, and the Yeti Tundra Haul. I chose these coolers because they were the closest among the brands when it came to internal storage.
Despite a few minor flaws, I found it to be a worthwhile investment for anyone seeking a versatile and comfortable sling pack for their outdoor adventures. We’ve scouted the best routes, from easy day hikes to epic overnight bike-packing.Find detailed itineraries, directions, and maps right here. It was heavier than the premium brands but still light enough for our needs.
When I first got the bag, I had issues with shoulder straps that pulls the bag up higher/lower on the back. At a price point of $79, it’s unlikely you’d be able to find anything else that’s brand new, competes with its features, and costs less than $100. You can likely find this pack at your local Walmart or online at Walmart.com.

Before purchasing this pack I used a more traditionally styled, and heavier, backpack for daily walks. I recently attended a seminar that explained the major difference of carrying lighter gear while outdoors. And I do day hikes in Sequoia ozark trail canopy National Park and on the coast.
My glucose meter and keys went in the small outside pocket. I did instantly notice the difference of carrying a lighter bag. I also don’t really prefer single compartment stuff bags, but, this works for what I need.
