Packaging SystemThe packaging system had to accommodate everything from small replacement parts to complete bikes. The Datum comes with 32c tyres, which is a bit closer to the ‘road’ end of the spectrum. But there is clearance for up to 38c, so if the conditions require it, this bike is able to handle the rougher stuff.
You can see our work for Giant in the grueling Tour de France, on Tokyo commuter streets, and in a garage much like your own. Versatility still pervades the frame, with downtube bottle bosses and mounts for a rear rack and mudguards. Although this bike can take on the commuting duties or a bit of cycle-touring, it is more suited to lively riding in the woods and on bridleways. With a 2×9 Shimano Sora groupset and mechanical disc brakes, there are notable differences to the higher end Croix de Fer. But these won’t present an impediment to getting out and using the frame for the huge variety of applications it has the capability for. Gravel riding, endurance road riding, cycle-touring, commuting, these are all still possible on this bike – it’s just a more accessible platform to get started with.

If you’re looking for a fun bike that can also do the grunt-work when required, this is the one for you. But if you want a dedicated workhorse, the Croix de Fer or Equilibrium will probably suit you better. Capable on and off road, it was a gentle step away from our original Vapour and towards a bike that was intended to go further… but we never imagined quite how much further. The serial number is stamped into the bottom of the frame (under the bottom bracket).
The external cable routing and threaded bottom brackets are also features that will be well apricated by home mechanics. There are three different spec levels, with 10 being the entry level, 20 the mid-range and 30 being the top of this range. For the entry level, you’ll get a Shimano Claris 2×8 drivetrain, an aluminium frame and genesis mountain bike carbon fork. Whilst the 30 model gets a Shimano 105 2×11 drivetrain, along with the aluminium frame and carbon fork. The Genesis 6061 is a top-of-the-heap way for individuals searching for an off-road bike, featuring a high-quality 6061-aluminum frame and fork, this Bike is splendid for a shopper digging for speed or performance.
The frame is fully carbon and the cables are integrated into the frame for a cleaner look and better aerodynamics. Giant is the largest manufacturer of quality bicycles in the world. What they owned in “build quality” they lacked in brand connectivity. Genesis was hired to help create a brand visual language to help tie the products into a cohesive whole in the global marketplace. Finding the center of the brand design was based on our uncovering the “truth in materials” position. Genesis created the personalities and graphics for bikes built for the world’s diverse cultures.
Some are more race oriented, meaning mudguard and pannier mounts are forgone and the geometry is longer and lower. Others have more of an endurance focus, better suited to long rides and have all the mounts you need for light cycle-touring. Ostensibly, this is a more budget-oriented version of the Vapour Carbon. Disc brakes remain present, but they have been changed to mechanical rather than hydraulic. The drivetrain is still a performance oriented 1×11 set up and, in all, this is still a competitive racing machine. The angles are steep, the front end is low and there aren’t mudguard or pannier mounts.
The bikes are available either with rim brakes or hydraulic discs, but there is only one spec level with these bikes. The rim brake version can take tyres up to 28c, whereas the disc version can handle 30c. As the name suggests, these are bikes that are designed for the explicit purpose of riding on the road.
