Our notes on this shelter are mostly positive — there isn’t much we don’t like about the Escape. In addition to costing you a few extra clams, this product doesn’t pack up very small. When stowed in its carrying case, it could easily be ozark trail canopy confused with a winter travel bag carrying snow skis. Its packed size is more than six feet, making it difficult to fit into an average-sized car. But if you’ve got a big enough rig, this is a dream canopy tent to add to your campsite.
This summer I had it up in the backyard after a birthday party for several days and one of the poles broke during a bad storm while I was at work. I have purchased outdoor sporting goods from Coleman and they not only have much better products, but they stand behind what they sell.
This product’s excellent wheel system is mostly plastic; we wish it were constructed primarily of metal. Additionally, it packs up large and is heavy, making it difficult to find room for it in the trunk of just any car. It’s also more challenging to lift into and out of a vehicle alone, and although quite solid, the E-Z Up can be a little wobbly at full height. These caveats aside, this is still our number one when heading out to the playing field. Pitch a truck bed tent right in the back of your truck to keep your sleeping bag off the ground and be ready to get up and go whenever you need to.
The tent’s construction has left a bitter taste in my mouth. The stakes holding it down are flimsy, and the poles feel less secure than a house of cards. And oh, the rainfly barely covers the mesh top, allowing warm air to escape and giving wind a chance to lift it like a kite in the sky.
Upon arrival, setting it up was easier than I anticipated, thanks to the color-coded fiberglass and steel pole design. The mesh panels made the whole experience feel like an open-air movie theater, providing a 360-degree view of the surreal surroundings. ozark trail canopy The shade provided, complete with a cool breeze, was a welcome relief from the humid days and a refreshing contrast to the sweltering heat. Setting up the screen house was incredibly easy, thanks to the color-coded poles and plastic hubs.
Additionally, the clips that hold the tent pieces together are dangerously stretched, leading me to worry about their longevity. While the other issues may not be as concerning, it’s the clips that have me on the fence about using this tent again. I’ve enjoyed its versatility and airy feel, but I’ll wait and see if these problems can be fixed before deciding whether to purchase it again. We also eliminated bulky, heavy shelters that are intended to be used as semipermanent backyard fixtures. Compared with our top day-tent pick, the L.L.Bean Woodlands Screen House uses arguably superior materials; it also comes with an unsurpassed warranty. But with a ceiling that’s 6 inches lower, it feels smaller and darker.
We looked for features like double-stitched seams, weather taping, steel, robust fabrics, and fewer moving parts. We also took note of the quality of the various storage bags. The Pacific Breeze Easy Up didn’t score as highly here, but we were impressed with its ability to handle the wind.
We found this setup process easy because it didn’t rely on many moving parts or analytical thinking. Our second grading metric involves how fast and easy it is to set up and take down each shelter, but it also considers how simple and intuitive both processes ozark trail chairs are. While we recommend a minimum of two people to set up most shelters, the ease of this process can vary drastically depending on the design and quality of materials. While being timed, we set up and took down each product a minimum of 10 times.
Every stress point on the Quick-Set Escape is reinforced, and all its seams are double-stitched and taped. We feel the E-Z Up Pyramid is almost as well-made as the Eurmax; however, its frame and canopy materials are slightly thinner. Additionally, its roller bag’s wheel assembly is mostly plastic. Our hands-down winner in this category is the Eurmax Standard 10×10.
Despite this, it still offers a comfortable space for camping and outdoor adventures. The versatility of this tent is impressive, as it serves as both a screen house and a tent for comfortable sleeping. And with so many convenient features, such as the E-Port, media pocket, and storage pockets, it feels like a home away from home when camping. Fully enclosed and ready to protect you from sun, wind, rain, AND bugs, the Clam Outdoors Quick-Set Escape is a perfect shelter for the campground. That said, we also feel its applications are somewhat endless.
