If you enjoy doing anything in the great outdoors and have always wanted to bring delicious food to the table (pun intended) then the Weber Traveler is a no-brainer. Whether it’s at the lake, the park, the game or even at home, this is an enjoyable and functional gas grill that anyone can use. Cooking the food was very much like cooking on my other Weber at home. I fit a full 10 pack of burgers that took minutes to get to medium-rare.

If you’ve spent much time in the Eastern Sierra, you know that it’s the perfect testing ground for high winds. During our fall testing period – a season we like to think of as winter fighting with summer – the intermittent storms brought gusts up to 30+ mph on one of our evenings of testing.

On the flip side, the Traveler is less portable than the brand would have you believe in its flashy promotional videos. It’s heavier than any other portable grill I’ve tested and I would categorize the Traveler as a semi-portable grill and not a truly portable grill. Next, I wanted to see how well I could control the temperature for lower-slower grilling candidates. There’s just one knob to control the fuel output and while the temp did drop when I lowered it, it was difficult to precisely control the temp one way or the other.

However, most reviews were positive, with one even stating that the grill was one of the best they had ever owned. The only downside is that the small gas bottle has to be unhooked before folding the grill up. This means it’s another thing to carry if you are trekking some way into a national park or similar. Where the gas bottle screws onto the grill is on the underneath of the top, and you need to be careful not to cross-thread it.

When I received the Traveler, the lid handle was a bit loose, but I was able to quickly tighten the bolts with a screwdriver to make it more secure. The grill folds up into a trolley-like structure with a handle that you can pull along. The rubberized wheels are sturdy enough for most terrains, although they may not be suitable for very rocky areas. However, they won’t get punctured or damaged from being outside in different weather conditions. Although there is quite a bit of packaging, the good news is that much of the polystyrene has been replaced with solid cardboard tubing, which makes it easier to recycle. The included foil tray catches the grease which can be easily slid in under the grill.

Due to the amount of cooking space, I also managed to char about 6 hot dogs and 4 turkey burgers at the same time. Next, I attached the camping size propane tank (you can buy an attachment to connect full-sized tanks), performed the burn-off, seasoned the grates with cooking oil and let it cool off for about a half hour. As I spent 6 weeks testing and cooking on the grill, I was impressed by the thoughtful design of the grill. Every feature has been added to enhance your entire experience, from transport to grilling.

The compact, portable design is easy to transport thanks to durable, all-weather wheels. The grill features a large cooking area and 13,000 BTUs of output power that is consistently distributed over the porcelain-enameled cast iron grilling surface. This is a top-of-the-line grill perfect for the chef who wants to prepare delicious meals from the backyard to the campsite.

Savor the journey with backyard quality food, no matter where the adventure takes you. The refund issued will be for the total amount of the order minus original outbound shipping and any return shipping costs incurred by Spotix Inc. If your return is due to an error made by us, you will not be responsible for shipping costs. The sleek, foldable, gas grill snaps up like one of those urban grocery pushcarts. When collapsed, the Traveler can be rolled around on two wheels but it still features a substantial 320 square inches of grilling capacity. I got my hands on the Traveler to see how Weber’s latest portable grill stacks up against the field.

At 1,300 BTUs, the Weber has a good punch of power for a portable grill so I expected some serious heat. The internal temp quickly rose to just about 500 degrees F with the lid closed but didn’t exceed that temp. Worth noting that 500 is a good mark to hit for high-heat grilling — things like steaks, burgers and in my case, tuna. The tuna steaks and sausages I plunked down on the grill grates got a nice sear with pretty grill marks in about 10 minutes (five on each side). The 49-pound Weber Traveler is a large, heavy-weight standing grill, which makes it difficult to compete against the more petite grills in our lineup. However, the designers at Weber truly put a lot of thought into the ease of transport by including a mechanism that allows for a slow lowering into a compact position.
