Genesis bikes range: carbon race bikes and stunning steel frames

Due to being disc brake only, the bridge between the seatstays could be removed. This further increases mud clearance and also adds to the frame’s compliance, providing better control. Definitely not a versatile bike; this is designed with only CX racing in mind and makes no compromises – except for, perhaps, its two sets of bottle bosses.

At the time, we weren’t sure if people would get it, so we hedged slightly, labelling it as a cross bike in the truest sense of the word. The serial number is stamped into the bottom of the frame (under the bottom bracket). We ask that you return your bike to the same place it was purchased.

Not quite mainstream, yet still hugely popular, genesis bicycless are a British brand loved by steel-aficionados and adventurers alike. One year on Vin Cox set off from The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London.

Versatility still pervades the frame, with downtube bottle bosses and mounts for a rear rack and mudguards. Although this bike can take on the commuting duties or a bit of cycle-touring, it is more suited to lively riding in the woods and on bridleways. With a 2×9 Shimano Sora groupset and mechanical disc brakes, there are notable differences to the higher end Croix de Fer. But these won’t present an impediment to getting out and using the frame for the huge variety of applications it has the capability for. Gravel riding, endurance road riding, cycle-touring, commuting, these are all still possible on this bike – it’s just a more accessible platform to get started with.

Plus, the lightweight alloy wheels add to the bike’s speed and agility. The matte black finish with neon accents is sure to turn heads on any trail. The basics are there in full length mudguards, a rear pannier rack, and puncture resistant tyres. With clearance for tyres up to 38c and a steel frame that will be robust and help deaden the road chatter, this is a bike with the stamina to match your own.

The Genesis UAV 1.0 is a modern 27.5″ with hard packed tires that rolls over everything. Light alloy frame with 24 speeds, and mech disc brakes. These bikes are designed for longer days out being able to handle heavier loads and rougher roads. Some bikes (such as the Fugio) are more oriented towards the rough stuff, whereas others (such as the Croix de Fer) are better suited to carrying loads. For those interested in dipping their toes into racing, or just want a sportier feeling bike, the Zeal range is Genesis’ entry level carbon option. The geometry is more aggressive than the endurance-oriented Equilibrium, but not quite as ‘head-down bum-up’ as the dedicated racers that are the Zeros. A solid steel range and a smattering of aluminium and carbon models brings the brand bang up to date.

The Genesis bicycle rack transcends form and function to make a bold, aesthetic statement. When empty, the simple “floating” concentric rings of the Genesis look like an attractive outdoor sculpture. When full, these same concentric rings park bikes safely and securely. The Genesis offers two contact points, at the front and rear, for locking.
