On that note, the Yeti Tundra Haul definitely doesn’t have that number of features but it does offer an ice retention performance that could last longer than the Trailmate’s. This is a frequently asked question which makes a lot of sense for anyone who’s getting a cooler no matter its size, quality or features. While you will pay more for the Igloo Trailmate than most other Igloo products, we still feel that it is a bargain for what you are getting.

We should also add that the telescoping handle doesn’t have a smooth action — it definitely doesn’t feel high quality or built to last a decade. The Igloo managed to hold refreshing brew temperatures at or below 50º for an additional several hours, for a total of 3.4 days of cold beers.

Why this is a thing, we’re not sure, as it made the Trailmate the least conducive to emptying via drain plug of any model we tested. We took a deeper look into the cooler that is currently selling out online, so you don’t have to. This brings me to a point that if it did turn over all the contents would come out, as the lid is not locking. In our testing we had it going up trails, sitting out in the 90+ degree heat and opened and closed the door to keep grabbing beers. It kept some ice up to the 4 days even with all of these conditions! As always the ambient temperature and how often you open the cooler will dictate how long the ice will stay.
The extra boxes and fishing rod holders on the outside kept popping off when we lifted the cooler or pushed it up against something in a certain way. The butler tray isn’t quite the right size to fit snugly in the trolley handle, and so slides a lot when in place. We did find the internal dry basket and two bottle openers on the outside to be fairly useful though. In our testing, the Trailmate crushed these numbers with 8 days of ice retention. Every day during our test, the lid temperature of igloo soft cooler the Trailmate was 100°+. To be fair, the cooler was filled to capacity with ice, as we do with all of our ice retention tests.
