The gas lantern gives off a very warm yellow light. The propane lantern is still warm, but not as yellow as gas. The LED was much different with its white, daylight balanced light. For your money, I don’t think that the coleman grill Coleman Rechargeable Lantern is the best value. It comes across cheaply made, has poor battery life and doesn’t offer many of the features that other lanterns do. An incorrect gas feed tube was installed on the lantern.

One 16 oz canister of propane lasts about four to five hours on high and about eight hours on medium to low. It is fully adjustable and can be set lower if you are trying to conserve propane. However, if the propane canister is running out, it occasionally makes a rather loud whistling noise. Coleman made this model for their Sunshine Safety company (post 1923). It has many of the same parts as Quick-Lite Model L327.

The lantern offers the ability to recharge at any outlet as well as charge your devices which is great. When Target and Walmart feature your product prominently, you’ll get sales no matter if your product is good or bad. As much as I hate ripping on any piece of gear, I really fell like Coleman mailed it in on their Rugged Rechargeable Lantern.

It typically started right up during our testing period where we used it nearly every single night. Just turn the fuel knob and press the red button and it lights instantly. It was easy to initially assemble and installing the mantle wasn’t too much trouble, but does take a bit of patience. It will smoke a lot at first, but then it burns off and shines very brightly. After the initial installation of the mantle, it doesn’t smoke anymore when you relight it. During this testing period, we only had to change the mantle once.

The collar, generator, and cap nut are different from that model. The center globe cage base disk is stamped Sunshine Safety Lamp Co., Kansas City, MO. From left to right above is, gas, Led, propane (northstar), and Justin’s propane lantern. His coleman lantern propane lantern has two mantle bags, whereas mine has one long mantle that stretches from the top to the bottom. This picture shows pretty clearly the difference in brightness and color. The other thing to notice is the the color of the light.

Make sure that the valve wheel is turned fully clockwise to the closed position. Rotate the pump handle counterclockwise one full turn, place your thumb over the hole in the end and give it a few pumps. If there is no resistance when pressing down on the pump, you will need to repair it before continuing. Remove coleman camping the ventilator and globe, then spray the lantern with a household cleaner like Simple Green®. Remove as much dirt and dust as you can and remove the old mantle(s). If you have no previous knowledge of the lantern you are working with, or if you do not know how long it has been sitting, please perform each step.

Beta Test Program memberships do not automatically renew. Coleman still sells a variety of lanterns that are powered by propane, kerosene, or camp fuel (aka white gas). They are still built in Wichita Kansas (though some parts, such as the globes, are made in China) and are widely available for sale online and in some big box stores. Because millions of them have been sold over the years, they are also widely available, sometimes for as little as 5 or 10 bucks, at garage sales, on Craigslist, and on Facebook Marketplace. Ace welcomes your feedback, comments, and suggestions regarding the Beta Test Program and potential improvements to the Beta Test Program (collectively, “Feedback”). Ace may use such Feedback, without restriction, to improve or modify the Beta Test Program and Ace’s other products and services.
