The L220 lantern above came with a Coleman reflector that appeared in the 1920 Coleman Parts Catalog 27 (no part number). The reflector was designed for the earlier LQ lantern but also fits in L220 and L228 models. The spring steel reflector rests against three of the uprights and the shiny inner surface reflects light from the mantles. The ventilator and mica globe were removed for this image.
Then it was the gas lantern at 860 lumens, followed by the LED at only 360 lumens. The Coleman rechargeable lantern is the biggest and heaviest of the rechargeable lanterns that I reviewed for this project. Coming in at 1.8 lbs and 5.75 x 5.19 x 10.63″. It is a fine lantern for car camping where space and weight are not a concern, but definitely not for any lightweight camping adventures. The detents in the bail tabs (image below) hold the bail upright. Model 227 preceding (right image) has flat spaces in the ventilator where these brackets and bail tabs were not used. This ventilator is from an MF-125 coleman canopy in Russ Baldwin’s collection. But I was intrigued–and ready to check out some new camping gear. The cost of these tanks vary depending on where you buy them. They normally run $4-5 at most big box stores. The Coleman Quick-Lite 327 was sold from 1920 to 1924 from the Wichita (USA) plant with no date stamp. This lantern, in Ron Lenfield’s collection, includes the box and accessories. Although this lantern has a later style baffle plate, the usual baffle plate in this version is as in the lower image. This past fall my buddy Phil got me interested in Coleman’s classic lanterns.
