This mostly-wooded “backwoods trail” offers opportunities to view deer, turkey, and woodland bird species. Bundle up and enjoy a few hours ice-fishing on Kent Lake at Kensington Metropark. Popular access points to Kent Lake include the West Boat Launch and Turtlehead picnic area. Winter catches include bluegill, black crappies, yellow perch and the occasional northern pike. Fishing is prohibited in ice skating areas.

Dogs are allowed on the trails, but must be on a 6-foot leash at all times.
Kensington Metropark has a limited number of slips available on Kent Lake. Interested boaters must enter the online Boat Slip Lottery. There are 93 slips available for rent each season. Slips are located in three separate areas; East Boat Launch (no pontoon boats), Mitten Bay (pontoons only) and Boat Rental.
One night a few year ago I’m riding one of my favorite trails and a deer comes crashing out of the brush and slams into my front wheel. Right as we both go down a big gray dog jumps on the deer and tears its throat open. Because I’m an idiot, I try to smack the dog away and it takes a nip at me. Then it looks me right in the eye and I belatedly realize that this dog is a wolf and I figure I’m dead. But the wolf scowls at me and leaps away. I said mostly healthy because I don’t think anybody thinks of broken collarbones or Alpha-gal Syndrome as healthy things.

A 3.4-mile trail extends north from the loop, connecting to the village of Milford. Kensington Metropark and Island Lake State kent mountain bike Recreation Area are connected via a paved connector underneath I-96. Senior rates are available for guests age 55 and older.
