While putting this battery-powered mower to the test after a rainy morning, we found that it had no trouble dealing with wet grass and cutting it evenly. Even when the grass was damp, the lawn mower effectively discharged the grass clippings. While we love that this mower gives you three options for grass clippings—bag, side-discharge, or mulch—note that you will have to purchase the bagger and mulching kit separately. We were also impressed with the riding mower’s quietness despite its size. When the cutting blades were not moving, the riding mower sound resembled that of a battery-powered ride-on car for kids. And, when the blades were spinning, the noise level was super low compared to traditional gas mowers.
Additionally, there’s so much cord that it just barely fits around the “horns” that you’re meant to wrap the cord around. It’s such a long (and annoying) process that we had to fully crouch down to avoid the onset of back pain when we tried to do this from a bent-over position. We also didn’t like how the DWPW2400’s sun joe electric mower wand holder hardly works at all. The spray wand seemed to fall off every time we touched the washer. The DeWalt has the same roll-bar design, with a padded handle and a low center of gravity. The clearly labeled nozzles are stored at the handle, and the cord has the same smart placement of the GFCI brick.
Other than that two products are similar in working, function and features while Ryobi is a bit more expensive and has a better build quality. Q. Is a hover mower a good choice for someone with physical limitations? When operating, the air cushion makes it very easy to control. However, some can be quite heavy when they’re not running, but that’s not the case with the Sun Joe hover mower, which weighs just 10 pounds.
While we recommend a good gas-engine mower, battery-powered models like the Sun Joe are quieter and require less maintenance, making them easy to manage. They’re also simple to start because they don’t need pull cords or to fiddle with a choke. The Sun Joe mower is self-propelled with a variable speed control dial, making it easy to customize your pace depending on the terrain. Meanwhile, the 20-inch deck ensures comprehensive coverage, so you don’t have to double back as often if you have a small to medium-size yard.
The RYOBI 80V HP Brushless Riding Mower is equipped with two 80-volt, 10-amp hour batteries and two 40-volt, 12-amp hour batteries, providing ample power for extended mowing sessions. During our testing, we appreciated the ability to install up to three 80-volt and four 40-volt batteries, allowing us to extend the mower’s runtime even further. We simply had to plug the charging cord into the rear of the mower to simultaneously charge all the onboard batteries. We were also delighted to find out that the 40-volt batteries can be used with different cordless Ryobi tools like trimmers and blowers, expanding the range of our outdoor power equipment collection.
The Ryobi gas model comes with a single quick-change sprayer tip. It’s designed like a garden sprayer or a showerhead, where you can turn the head and cycle through the spray options. It has 0-, 25-, and 40-degree sprays, as well as two soap settings, fan and jet.
One thing worth noting is that even though this robotic option gets fairly close to the edges of a yard, you’ll likely need a string trimmer for touch-ups every so often. During the past three months, we have thoroughly tested this lawn mower, and it has proven to be exceptional in trimming even the thickest grass. As we were tending to our garden, we decided to test its ability to chop up weeds instead of manually removing them.
