Coleman 8 Person Instant Camping Tent 14 x 10 Express Setup

Costing less than $50 and small in size it is best kept for younger children who would like a tent of their own to sleep in. 10 of Coleman’s tents have a suggested retail price of less than $100 You can often find another 10 or so, that coleman sundome with discounts fall into this category. Rather than just playing safe and highlighting those that are always cheapest. Ditto the last two reviews — the tent is great but Coleman NEEDS to re-engineer the crappy plastic corner pieces.

Our main issue with the integrated rainfly is that we lose all ventilation (and views of the outside) when there’s risk of rain, but there is a slight solution to this. For an additional $28, Coleman offers a secondary rainfly accessory made of Polyguard 2X that straps to the top and allows you to have open vents without getting your stuff soaked. Although it’s less than ideal to add a 20% upcharge to unlock this feature, it’s still much easier on your wallet than the majority of the tents in our review.

So, if you have this tent, I recommend putting the zippers higher up where it’s more protected by the rainfly, instead of lower down, where water can seep in. Even in light rain, majority of the mesh will get wet, as you can see in the picture above. I could crack the windows open a tiny bit in light rain, but in heavier rain, it’s best not to. Apart from the roof, this Coleman 10-Person Tent has 5 windows and 2 doors, almost all of which are pretty massive, allowing for plenty of ventilation when it’s not raining. The back door measures about 47 by 46 inches in dimensions, and it’s about 53 inches from the floor to the top of the door.

I don’t think this Coleman 10-Person Instant Tent will do very well against strong winds. This is a cabin tent, so the shape isn’t aerodynamic at all. One of the best features about this tent is the dark room technology. In the above pictures, you saw what this Coleman 10-Person Instant Cabin Tent looked like with all the windows open. If there are no bugs, you can increase ventilation by leaving the hinged door open, and also by unzipping the other door, rolling it up and clipping it to the side right here like this.

You’ll also want to set aside some extra time to strap on the secondary rainfly should you opt to purchase this along with the tent, but we’ll talk more about that later on. It’s also worth noting that this tent can easily be set up by only one person, something that cannot be said for several of the two-person tents in our review. That been said campers love this tent and the larger versions, and seem quite happy to pay extra for the convenience it offers. The larger 6 person version is better suited to families of four. Both are sold without a rain fly, which you will need to purchase. The Coleman 8 person instant cabin tent is an instant setup and a cabin-type tent.

The problem may appear with vertical flaps when you have rain and strong wind which can force water to move to the sides and under the flaps tp the zippers. So my point is that I would not rely on this system as fully waterproof, although it really looks great and durable. Note that in any variant with beds (cots), you always have space underneath the beds, so you can use it to store your gear. Using air mattresses on the ground is also an option, but they will take all space. Off-ground sleeping is a far better option in any tent. The tent can accommodate two full-size queen beds, one in each of the two rooms.
