These features are fun and can be genuinely useful if you sometimes neglect your dental workouts. The apps from Oral-B and Philips have had some time to mature, and they can guide you towards a better technique that could keep your teeth and gums healthier for longer. All the same, these features aren’t essential, and not everyone is prepared to take their smartphone to the bathroom twice a day or check their app to monitor their brushing.
Their toothbrushes tend to skew cheaper than Sonicare, and replacement brush heads also run on the cheaper side. Studies are comparing the two brands in terms of teeth-cleaning effectiveness tend to contradict each other, so it’s hard for science to definitively call one brand better than the other. Few, if anyone, will notice how extra rotations per minute or brushes per minute will affect their teeth’s cleanliness, so don’t get too caught up in the marketing terms that get tossed at your head. No matter which brand you go for, switching from manual brushing to electric brushing is an immediate improvement to your oral hygiene.
This brush also scored well in aesthetics; both color options (black and white) are glossy, clean, and unobtrusive, and sit nicely on a bathroom shelf or counter. (You can also find the brush in pastel green or pink at some third-party retailers). While these toothbrushes didn’t top any of our categories, they may still be of interest to you. An older version of the Pro 1000 had a grippier handle with ridges, which tended to accumulate dribbles and made the brush handle a bit more difficult to keep clean.
Having braces means you need a toothbrush that’s robust enough to clean out all the hard-to-reach places. This tech-savvy toothbrush can be connected to the Oral-B app, a feature that gave us very important details about our brushing session. With the app, we were able to see a detailed picture of our mouth with all the spots we brushed — as well as the ones we missed. This gave us an upper hand to sufficiently clean every area of our mouth, which is especially important when wearing braces to avoid staining. Additionally, this toothbrush worked overtime to remove plaque and food from the gums, which can often get stuck due to brace placement.
Nearly all electric toothbrushes that pair to apps collect varying amounts of personal information. In most cases, the only way to opt out of your data—anonymized or not—being disclosed with affiliates and third parties, for a variety of purposes, is to not download or use the app at all. Per advertising from Philips Sonicare that is now more than two decades old, some people have come to assume that so-called sonic toothbrushes remove more plaque—with sound waves. If you already have an electric toothbrush you’re happy with, there’s no need to consider upgrading. If you use a manual brush and don’t struggle to maintain good brushing habits, there’s little reason to consider upgrading in that case, either.
Nearly every electric toothbrush we’ve tested requires rinsing and/or wiping down between each use. Otherwise, you may end up with dried toothbrush-spit residue gunking up any crevices—particularly oral b braun toothbrush where the brush head meets the handle. In addition to a quick rinse and wipe between uses, you may find it worthwhile to periodically remove the brush head to clean this junction.
However, experts said there are some factors you can consider to help you narrow down the plethora of options available. Again, it depends on how you use it, but generally electric toothbrushes last between two and five years. Tips like not leaving your battery charging when full can help expand the life of your brush. A point of frustration is the low-battery indicator light, which is barely visible and led to a mid-brush shutdown during testing.
While the large brush head and long bristles make for slightly awkward maneuvering between areas, the toothbrush’s action takes care of the manual work—no elbow grease required. App features like timer alerts and easy-to-switch-between brush settings let you personalize your daily oral b toothbrush heads routine, making it a great option for people with specific dental requirements. There’s an app for almost everything these days — including toothbrushes. By pairing your toothbrush with the app, you can get details and information about your brushing habits, style, and techniques.
Sonicare also uses sonic technology to circulate the toothpaste throughout your teeth and gums. Both styles of toothbrush clean teeth thoroughly, and certainly better than a manual toothbrush. We’re currently testing Sonicare toothbrushes and will do a full comparison between the two brands once that testing is complete. Not only do GQ’s team of grooming experts swear by their electric toothbrushes, but they’ll also be the first amongst us to evangelise about their chosen brush heads and flossing strategy.
But in practice, we prefer using our electric toothbrush and water flosser picks separately. The Sonic Fusion SF-01’s water-flosser nozzle oral b toothbrush heads is built into the toothbrush head. In brush-only mode, the Sonic Fusion SF-01, which is warrantied for three years, has quadrant pacing.
