While we sort of wish that they would have gone with Rotomolded construction, this process would have likely greatly increased the size, weight, and cost of the cooler. You will find plenty of storage space inside the insulated area but that is only the beginning. The igloo soft cooler Cooler also comes with additional storage for your non-chilled items. You will find a special dry storage bin that is perfect for your electronics, wallets, or other items that you want to stay secure and not get wet. For less sensitive items, there is also a large storage pocket directly below the dry storage bin.
The Igloo Trailmate 70 is the best rolling cooler for the money we have tested to date. This is a pretty bold statement considering we have reviewed a ton of wheeled coolers in the past. However, this claim is easily defended considering the superior ice retention and the included features/accessories. Our rugged Trailmate cooler has oversized, all-terrain wheels and a sturdy telescoping handle, so you can easily and smoothly roll it to your destination. You can easily take the Trailmate anywhere thanks to the telescoping lever that halves the towing weight.
A common complaint that people have when it comes to these large coolers is their lack of mobility. Igloo has found a way to solve that issue in addition to offering up a lot of really cooler other features. The ice life and build quality are at acceptable levels and igloo trailmate the styling is really sweet. We think you should add this product to your potential cooler list if you want something more mobile. The big things missing from making this cooler excel in ice retention are not being rotomolded and not utilizing a large rubber gasket.
The cooler caught my eye with the unique styling and the large wheels in the back. I didn’t know all the extra features it had until I got it. On the back side of the cooler are two removable rod holders. The same mounting bracket that is used for the removable rod holders can be used with removable Igloo cup holders. Needless to say this is the perfect cooler for a beach day or surf fishing.
Igloo makes a lot of products, many of which we think are excellent values for what they bring to the table. Unfortunately, we don’t feel the same way about the Trailmate Marine. We found its performance and overall quality to be less than what we had hoped, though its price is not much less than many of the seriously impressive coolers we tested.
As you probably would expect, the tests using more ice did better. For instance, the Igloo Trailmate Liddup also comes with built-in LED lights on the inside. This is very helpful for those times that you are using your cooler at night and it is difficult to see. And to provide additional support, there are a couple of aluminum stands (with equally aggressive grip) on the front of the cooler.
And when you aren’t using it, simply store it away under the cooler’s lid. The Igloo Trailmate Cooler Series is a relatively new offering by the popular cooler company, Igloo. These coolers are designed for those people who need a quality cooler with good ice life but also something easy to transport and entertain with.
But we still would encourage you to be cautious with storing items that are particularly sensitive to wet environments, even if you are putting them in the dry storage bin. Finally, one of the most important aspects is the mobility of this cooler. The easy glide handle feels solid and smooth when extending. I quickly learned that this cooler is made to go over far more than than pavement. Given that it has the name Trailmate I knew it had to go on a trail to truly earn it’s name.
At the front, the Trailmate has two more storage compartments, one of which is a waterproof storage compartment for your phone or wallet, for example. The lid contains four cup holders and a stand for your phone or tablet. In the cooler there is a basket to keep things cold that should not get wet. With the included tray, you turn the pull-up bar into an additional workspace. At the bottom you will find two more holders for a beach umbrella or fishing rods.
