For this guide, we focused on electric toothbrushes with rechargeable batteries. Those with replaceable batteries tend to have less-powerful motors and produce more battery waste over their oral b toothbrush heads usable lives. We found that our standard two-minute brushing timer wasn’t always quite enough to get through a complete and thorough cleaning during testing. Rather than a standard brush head on a handle, these devices include trays that look like mouthguards lined with bristles. In promotional materials (such as the Amabrush video that accompanied the company’s 2017 crowdfunding campaign), the companies claim their devices can simultaneously clean all of a person’s teeth in mere seconds. (Amabrush filed for bankruptcy in 2019.) Questions of efficacy aside, a single user could expect to pay hundreds of dollars for the starter kit for one of oral b braun toothbrush these devices. And all of the replacement mouthguards cost more than $10 apiece, making these types of toothbrushes far more expensive than any of our other picks. The Vitality brush is Oral-B’s least expensive electric model with a rechargeable battery. Oral-B declined to disclose the number of oscillations, vibrations, brushstrokes, or bristle movements for any of its toothbrushes, but we noticed that the Oral-B Vitality felt noticeably weaker than the Oral-B Pro 1000 and Pro 500.
We haven’t tested the Mode brush, which—for roughly three times the cost of our picks—offers wireless charging and an optional nightlight. But compared with our picks’ two years of coverage, the Mode is warrantied for a year. Nearly all electric toothbrushes that pair to apps collect varying amounts of personal information. In most cases, the only way to opt out of your data—anonymized or not—being disclosed with affiliates and third parties, for a variety of purposes, is to not download or use the app at all. Per advertising from Philips Sonicare that is now more than two decades old, some people have come to assume that so-called sonic toothbrushes remove more plaque—with sound waves.
Having said that, we couldn’t help but notice one online review where the person stated that using the Pro GumCare allowed them to use their brush on its full-power Daily Clean mode rather than Sensitive. And we get the idea that the rubber cup scours and polishes your teeth. But we’d anticipate that most of what it does goes on in the center of the tooth as opposed to across its entire surface, like in between teeth where stain certainly tends to form. We should point out that the FlossAction is a little bit larger than Oral-B’s perfectly round replacements (like the Precision Clean or CrossAction). Oral-B suggests that they give this head an improved ability (probably due to their comparative stiffness) to clean in between teeth and along the gum line. Remaining models like the Oral-B Sensitive Gum Care, Oral-B Charcoal, Arm & Hammer Spin Brush Pro, Voguish Replacement Heads for Oral-B, and Oral-B Precision Clean all take a similar approach to the Cross Action and to each other. They have circular oscillating heads that cover teeth well, just not quite as thoroughly. Spending oral b toothbrush heads over $100 will get you a couple more modes on your brush, a travel case that can charge the brush on the go, and perhaps a pressure sensor that lights up once activated. Replace brush head every 3 months or sooner if brush head becomesworn or loose due to damage. They differ in levels of intensity (for instance, the 2100 offers two levels while the 6100 offers three) and the number of cleaning modes (the 1100 and 2100 only offer one while the 6100 offers three). The pricier models also include accessories such as a travel case, which are nice but not necessary. If you already have an electric toothbrush you’re happy with, there’s no need to consider upgrading. If you use a manual brush and don’t struggle to maintain good brushing habits, there’s little reason to consider upgrading in that case, either.
