The Coleman Sundome 4, 9’x7′, dome tent is part of the classic Sundome series of tents from Coleman. The Sundome 4 sleeps 4 happy campers and includes a large door for easy entry/exit with a hooded fly to provide ventilation even in rain. The generously proportioned sleeping area has good head height to make camping comfortable and the peaked porch over the large D-door provides protection whilst entering and exiting the tent. The mesh door and the rear mesh window with zip up cover allow for good air flow and ventilation. Storage pockets and a built in lighting loop help keep the tent organized.
The floor is also best used with a footprint or trap underneath to make sure it isn’t damaged. This 4-Person dome tent also comes with guy-lines to support the fiberglass poles. Coleman tents are tested in winds up to 35 miles per hour to ensure they will stand up to mild winds. This is helped in part by the 11mm shock-corded fiberglass tent poles.
Built using the same structure as the standard model (it’s only offered in 4P and 6P sizes), the design utilizes a special fabric on the tent body and rainfly that blocks a claimed 90% of light. For one, it has serious potential appeal among late sleepers or parents that are hoping to enjoy an uninterrupted cup of coffee in the morning. The dark fabric also helps keep the tent cooler, which is a nice plus in the hot summer months.

However heavy rain in bad weather might cause the tent to leak. Unless you are planning to use the tent just for sleeping (and keep your gear stored somewhere else) it’s going to be too small for a family of four. It won’t come as a surprise to those who go camping regularly that the capacity of a tent is based on the maximum number of people you could squeeze in, rather than a size that prioritizes comfort. With a ceiling height of less than 5 feet tall, there isn’t much livable space in this budget-friendly tent.
A large rear hooded window also provides airflow for cross ventilation. The coated polyester fabrics on the fly and walls are rugged and durable. Like all coleman instant tent tents it is easy to set up or take down and features an Electrical Access Port, a ground vent and an interior mesh storage pocket. Having tested a number of six-person tents of late, we’re happy to report that the Coleman Sundome 6 was among the easiest to set up and take down.
