Once rolling the true nature of the Genesis started to shine through, a lively agile ride that encourages you to push on and flick the bike through singletrack whilst looking for roots and rocks to bunny hop and pop off. Cornering is quick and precise with rear wheel drift easily attainable.

If you want a Genesis bike, pick the appropriate material for your needs. The Day One is still made by Genesis as a daily urban racing bike for enthusiasts of tradition. It’s now available in a steel version with extra city comforts. The model number can be found on the lower portion of the genesis bike seat tube just above the crank on a black and silver decal. An impressive fork at this price point and sensible kit are great and the wheels finish the package off nicely but the main attraction here is the geometry.
You could put 38c tyres on it and go bike-packing on some gravel, or you could put front and rear pannier racks on, throw in some mudguards, and take it on an around the world tour. You could even commute, go on road rides, use it as a utility shopper. The bikes are available either with rim brakes or hydraulic discs, but there is only one spec level with these bikes. The rim brake version can take tyres up to 28c, whereas the disc version can handle 30c. The Croix de Fer is probably Genesis’ flagship bike, much loved by adventurers and commuters alike. Set up was simple, the bike did come with a whole bunch of spacers below the stem, after less than 30 seconds on the bike I had these shuffled to get the front as low as possible and it was off to the trails. A combination of clean lines and an eye pleasing Cyan Blue paint job make the Core a very pretty bike and at a price that is pretty attractive too. An avid cyclist, Ignaz Schwinn met Adolf Arnold in Chicago in the 1890s while working as a machinist. After working in numerous factories for a few years, the pair decided to start their own bike company.
