RadioLab Podcast Digs into Competitive Bikepacking in “Alone Enough”

Plus, buying a bike at your LBS allows you to get fitted for the proper frame size. More than one review indicated a longer post or stem was needed, neither of which addresses the fact that the frame is a “one size fits most”. The Genesis V2100 mountain bike is considered a very sturdy bike loaded with a 26 inch full suspension aluminum frame. The frame itself is light and allows for easy control of the bike. This MTB also comes with a comfortable padded seat which is easy to remove and adjust by unlocking it at the base and pulling it out.

First of all, a great value for the cost is the Genesis GS29 mountain bike. And the 21-speed drivetrain with Shimano’s Revo shifters makes for a smooth ride over rough roads with its own unique advantages. If you compare this to mountain bikes over $500, the Genesis mountain bike is not good enough.

You’ll appreciate how the suspension helps to reduce impact—the result is a pretty smooth ride. With its proportions, and tapered headset it can have many higher end components added the bike to make it comparable to bikes much more expensive than it is. This includes new forks, better derailleurs, better handlebars and so much more. The brakes are used with disc brakes on the front and rear of the bike, making for a nice look. It’s hard to get passed the point that this bike has disc brakes on the front, and rim brakes on the front.

The full suspension frame on this bike is really one of the more essential parts to allowing this bike to ride through almost any terrain out there. You’ll want to understand this bike’s essential features before purchasing it, including its complex shifting system and how it is different from similar bikes. The Genesis has a 21 Speed drivetrain which genesis bicycles is great for smooth changing of gears as you ride on bumpy roads, uphill trails and other types of terrains. The Shimano EF40 gears are lightweight and allow you to shift several gears in one shift. These shifters are definitely one of the bike’s best qualities and make riding uphill or downhill an easy task compared to other bikes in the market.

There is no possible way a company can sell a bike with a proper drivetrain and working front and rear suspension for $150. I found a cheap 26″ frame off of PricePoint.com and built my own bike after that. Ride a bike you have built or one of a higher quality and you will realize how terrible bikes of this caliber are. Sure, anything that gets you riding is a plus, but as mentioned before you get what you pay for. After 100 miles my rear hub became so loose that it was pretty much un-ride-able. My only concern is not knowing how to replace the pads on my front break, like most models, I have a disc break in front.

Having a slightly better bike that I could upgrade makes all of the difference. Alright, now we have gone through what I like, and don’t like about each bike. So what made me finally decide that I wanted to go through the trouble of returning the Incline, and trade it for the Boundary? Now there aren’t many things I don’t like about this bike, other than the following. For the price, the Boundary obviously has higher quality then it probably should! This in the end though, is more of a personal preference thing, and you may have no problem with it!

All helmet manufacturers will have a size guide on their websites, and we highly recommend following each brand’s recommendations of how to measure for its own helmets before investing in a purchase. If a helmet doesn’t fit properly then it will not do the job it is designed for. Helmets are often available in different sizes relating to the circumference of your head. The primary function of a cycling helmet is to protect your head – and all helmets will meet the minimum standards set out by the safety authority in the country of sale. We found it was a very comfortable lid, which provided a close fit with Met’s ‘Safe-T Orbital’ fit system with retention dial. It also had sufficient ventilation thanks to its three small vents on the front and further two ‘exhaust’ holes at the rear – included to channel air out the back.
