The Croix de Fer comes in three steel options as well as a titanium model. On the higher end, the Genesis bikes are actually quite good. Some of the components, such as a steel frameset and caliper brakes on a $2,000 bike, are somewhat confusing. However, even that bike offers great components and specifications everywhere else. Its upgraded version, the Genesis Equilibrium Disc, offers excellent specifications across the board, with the steel frame left as the only questionable component choice.
The aluminum frame and carbon fiber fork offer significantly improved performance over the complete aluminum or steel framesets that are common in this price range. With the narrower 25 mm wheels, it will ride pretty rough on gravel or rough terrain. However, it offers plenty of torque ratios with 11 rear cogs and would be a versatile machine for genesis mountain bike commutes and road riding. These are Genesis’ entry-level road bikes and are the cheapest in their range. The geometry is a little more upright, making for a more comfortable and less twitchy ride. There are mounts for mudguards and a pannier rack, which expands the range of use from just road riding to commuting and even lightweight cycle touring.
