It’s also a good idea to inspect the drivetrain components and brakes.
Shift through the gears and look at the overall condition of the derailleurs and shifters. The Schwinn High Sierra is not compatible with cantilever brake calipers due to the brake stud location. If you don’t like roller-cam brakes or if you can’t find a replacement part that you need, there is a solution. Roller-cam brakes use the same brake stud as U brakes. Many High Sierra owners swap out the roller cam brakes for U brakes. Another problem is that roller-cams are no longer being manufactured so getting some parts can be a challenge.
