Best single-speed bikes 2023: Fixed gear and single-speed bikes from £250

Matthew LoveridgeA fixie, also known as a -gear or fixed-wheel bike, is the simplest kind of bicycle there is, with no freewheeling mechanism at all. A single-speed or fixed gear forces you to work hard uphill and, in the latter case, spin quickly back down too (a fixie doesn’t allow you to freewheel at all). The benefits or lack thereof are hotly debated, but it’s safe to say they can make you a stronger rider, and you’ll certainly learn some new techniques.

Of course, it’s a gravel bike that gets a carbon frame that’s said to weigh just 1,000 grams. What’s special is that it can run all wheel sizes and tyres up to 40c (or 2.1in), making the bike at home on both road or more aggressive gravel. The wheels are 27.5” and have decent traction; you should be able to maintain your grip on most surfaces easily.

If you prefer a wider of speed options the Genesis 26″ V2100 Mountain Bike might be an entry-level bike worth trying. The Liv Tempt 4 is relatively more expensive and uses a lightweight ALUXX-grade aluminum frame. So it is a little lighter than the Genesis 26″ V2100 Mountain Bike, and a little more flexible when dealing with off-road climbs.

These sachets will completely replace the South African brand’s pre-mixed cleaners and will be available at £3 a sachet with boxes of 10 costing £30. The first Genesis bike was produced under the Ridgeback brand as the Day One model in 2001. Due to its popularity, Genesis became a label in its own right in 2006.
