Since 2001 Genesis Bikes have had an eye for the finer details, utilising the very best materials and always heading in their own direction. The simple concentric rings of the Genesis™ bike racks look like attractive outdoor sculptures. Ostensibly, this is a more budget-oriented version of the Vapour Carbon. The aluminium frame is cheaper, although the fork is still carbon. Disc brakes remain present, but they have been changed to mechanical rather than hydraulic.

I think smaller wheel-diameter tires would perform a little better here. This top-down forest road singletrack trail is lined with intermingling trees and has many turns. At first, I was a little concerned about whether it would cause a sightline obstruction, but as soon as the tires started rolling, I knew it wouldn’t be a problem. This versatile carrier may be the easiest to install and load bike rack yet devised. The simple to operate built-in clamps attach to round, square, factory, and aero crossbars, with no tools… Staff always helpful and informative so I understand repairs recommended.
The Columbia Rd shares the same Shimano STEPS E6100 motor and battery as the Smithfield, but has a step-through Mjolnir steel frame. Big 29er wheels and tyres combine with full mudguards, racks, lights and a kickstand. Genesis produces bikes for all cycling disciplines, including road, mountain, cyclocross, gravel/adventure and commuting. The other thing is the bikes from large stores are not usually available in different sizes so you may be stuck with an ill-fitting bike. Riding trails on an ill-fitting bike simply sucks the fun out of cycling.

The braking from Shimano’s hydraulic MT200 brakes offer impressive stopping power and progressive feel. As with all batteries, the Shimano one will degrade over time, but Shimano is one of the few brands to acknowledge that, and claims that over 1,000 charges it’ll still retain 60 per cent of its capacity. However, I found that by dropping into a lower gear and upping the power to max at traffic lights, I could get away ahead of vans and buses.
They installed a few genesis bike on and explained everything including my warranty. I would recommend genesis to anyone looking to purchase a bike ,excessories or just ask questions they may have. Versatility still pervades the frame, with downtube bottle bosses and mounts for a rear rack and mudguards. Although this bike can take on the commuting duties or a bit of cycle-touring, it is more suited to lively riding in the woods and on bridleways. Essentially an aluminium version of the Croix de Fer, the CDA features a similar plethora of mounts and wide clearances but comes in at a significantly lower price. Part of this is down to the different frame material, but cheaper components are also a factor.
The drivetrain is still a oriented 1×11 set up and, in all, this is still a competitive racing machine. Given the versatility of this frame, it is perhaps to be expected that there is a large number of different builds on offer. It is available with flat bars and drop bars, carbon forks and steel forks, there’s even a titanium frame option.
These are Genesis’ entry-level road bikes and are the cheapest in their range. The geometry is a little more upright, making for a more comfortable and less twitchy ride. There are mounts for mudguards and a pannier rack, which expands the range of use from just road riding to commuting and even lightweight cycle touring.
