The Classic Camp Stove Gets a Modern Makeover: Coleman 1900 3-in-1 Review

Cooking capacity is very important when you’re in the market for a new camping stove. Canister stoves can’t support the weight of larger pots, so you may want to use a liquid fuel stove if you have more people to cook for. The Classic has a great price-to-value ratio but it’s not exactly refined.

The good news is that Coleman’s burner control knobs are the best I’ve used on a stove of this size. The Cascade and 1900 stoves also share the same windscreen design, which features deeply scooped sides that made me nervous at first. How could this possibly block wind as well as the much larger side windscreens on the Classic, when they have so much less material? The answer is that they really only need to block wind at the base, to keep the flame from going out.

What separates it from the Classic is more control throughout the range of cooking temperatures. It boils water a bit faster than the Classic while still providing a gentle flame that lets you cook foods more delicately than on the Classic . It also includes a piezo ignition, which is fine coleman propane stove as long as you don’t expect that component to last forever . The Cascade case is easier to carry thanks to its included handle. We used these camp stoves in the field during numerous camping trips as well as some backyard cookouts, testing how they handled cooking a variety of meals.

The auxiliary burner control is a push-pull strap ; it exits the case under the main generator valve. This stove, in Christopher Durbin’s collection, is missing the corrugated oven rack and diffuser plate . Coleman’s No. 4 urn burner is shown above mounted on a fount with fittings from another manufacturer, possibly W-M-P MFG. CO. Lohrville, Iowa, which is printed on the pressure gauge.

While camping stoves have traditionally required a little extra help to start up, some newer models have auto-ignition. If this is important to you, factor that into your decision. That doesn’t mean these stoves are clones of the old ones. Both coleman camp stove the Cascade series two-burner and the 1900 series two-burner feature modern updates like electric ignition, hot plates, and grill plates. Most importantly, both burn propane and not the mixed liquid fuel sources used in stoves of yore.

I want to get families, singles, anyone and everyone outdoors and enjoying the world of camping! One mistake I made was to misunderstand what they meant by Eventemp to begin with. I took that to mean that all three burners will produce the exact same amount of heat when set to the same setting on the knob.

The Classic is cheap at full retail price, and online retailers often have it for even cheaper. While it wasn’t the best in any of our tested categories, it holds its own and performs consistently. If your camp cheffing needs are simple, or you are searching for a car camping stove that won’t break the bank, this is a good model to explore. While the Classic is pretty much the same as many other table top stoves, the fuel adaptor is noticeably easier to attach to the stove body than many of our other tested models.

While cooking, the Cascade can hold a 12-inch pan and a 10-inch pan side by side, same as the Classic. With 22,000 Btu , it produces a touch more heat than our top pick—not all that much for a stove that costs twice the price. If that’s all the Cascade could do, we probably wouldn’t recommend coleman stove it. When you’re using larger pots and pans, a neat feature of this stove is that the lid can lie completely flat, which creates more stovetop room . And although this arrangement removes wind protection, it lends a little more flexibility when you’re cooking for a crowd in a sheltered spot.
