This is a great beginners bike for the price and works well for smaller easy trails but the shorter fork travel on the front means if you are riding hard you should expect to bottom them out quite a bit. The aluminium frame is very nice since you do not have to worry about scratches rusting out the paint around the area and the rear swing arm is very sturdy due to the set up of the rear shock. This isn’t a slack-angled downhill sled though, as the rest of the geometry is much more conservative. Filter through thousands of used bikes to find exactly what you’re looking for. Combine with the value guide to validate the asking price. Check the pedals, chain, derailleur, and the teeth of your gears to ensure that they are lubricated and operating properly. Tighten the chains to ensure that they don’t slip off of your wheels while you’re on the bike.
But take the bike down anything reasonably rocky or rooty and the limitations of a hardtail with a fairly basic 120mm travel fork are clear as the bike clatters along. The Core 30 gets a number of other important upgrades too over the cheaper model and a polished raw aluminium frame finish to boot. Genesis has a reputation for no nonsense, no fuss bikes and the Core 30 is no exception genesis bike as, despite its wallet-friendly, price this is the top specced version with two other models below it. Fill the tires with air if they are running low or replace them or the tubes if they keep deflating. Tighten your brakes with a screwdriver, if needed, to keep them working smoothly. Genesis are a British brand that have been building decent bikes and a decent reputation so I was looking forward to a chance to see if the positive buzz about the company and their bikes was well earned.
