shimano Inexpensive mods for decathlon 7 speed road bike

At Decathlon, all our road bikes are equipped with 700c diameter wheels , and with clincher . Our Triban bikes take everything that is good about a road race bike – in terms of speed and handling, but offer a more relaxed position that is less extreme than a full on race bike, so they’re a lot more comfortable over long distances. There are eight models in this range, billed as super-comfortable road bikes for commuting, day rides and light touring. The more recent models feature an entirely new frame in 6061 aluminium and fork with carbon fibre blades.

This is one reason we’re particularly excited to be reviewing the Decathlon Triban Disc 105 RC 520 today. Although the model name is a mouthful, the RC 520 has one of the highest specs for Decathlon’s Triban bike line. I know his cheapest one is a bit over 600 quid, lots more than your budget, but isn’t it almost half-price with cycle to work to you? Everyone seems to rate the Boardman bikes as well as excellent value for money. I’ve bought plenty of their own brand kit previously, but never anything in this sort of price range or cycling related.

Probably not, and that’s definitely something to keep in mind. Consumer-direct bikes are almost always less expensive than comparable major brands on paper, but decathlon road bike there are often some hidden costs to consider that narrow the gap, too. Our bike’s front shifting worked very well, but will your Triban RC120 be just as good?

And I truly believe that if you are riding no more than an hour or two at a time, many of the subtleties and advances wouldn’t make any difference to you anyway. Overall, I was reasonably impressed with the Decathlon gear I tried. The fabrics and materials mostly have a nice hand, the breathability and performance are solid, and the styling ranges from inoffensive right up to pretty nice looking. The 100 level gear is definitely basic, but then again, the prices are ridiculously low, so it’s impossible to complain.

I am VERY happy with this bike and I can HIGHLY recommend it. Basically nothing here belongs but it all somehow makes sense. It has fender mounts BUT you cannot install full size fenders because the isnt enough clearance. It has rack mount BUT you cannot install a rack because the brakes are in the way.

Remember that unless you’re purchasing the Triban RC120 from a retail Decathlon location, this bike will arrive on your doorstep in a box, and it’s up to you to put it together. Not surprisingly, then, both Dave and I became quickly accustomed to the setup, with both of us having spent plenty of time on Campagnolo mechanical Ergopower-equipped bikes. The Microshift transmission isn’t fancy, but it capably gets the job done. The controls drew more mixed reactions, though. In fact, Dave noted that the extended thumb paddle even offered better ergonomics than Campagnolo, although the lever action itself felt notably more vague. Some bike brands choose style over substance for their less expensive bikes in an effort to lure potential buyers with sparkle and shine. However, Triban has gone the opposite way, wisely prioritizing function well over form to the benefit of its buyer.

The Van Rysel RR 900 CF 105 is made to a race geometry and is built up with Shimano’s mid-level 11-speed 105 groupset. 105 is slightly heavier than Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra but not by much, and the level of performance is excellent. Built around the same frame as the RC 500, the RC 520 gives you most of a Shimano 105 R7000 groupset for your extra £200 and TRP HY/RD disc brake calipers. These have a hydraulic stage to do the tricky bit of turning the braking force though 90° and are significantly more powerful and easier to modulate than cable-only disc brakes. Compared to much more expensive road bikes, the Triban is definitely fairly heavy at 10.6kg, and as someone who’s ridden a variety of bikes, I can notice this on the hills especially. However, the target market for this bike – new and improving riders – will most likely not be affected by this, so it’s definitely not a reason to dismiss it.

This, like all of Decathlon’s Van Rysel’s, is said to be the perfect climbing machine but is strong enough to tackle to toughest classic. While you could probably get a stronger bike for both, this will definitely do a great job. Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. It was bought for my 13 year old and is just the job for zooming to and from school with her friends.

At the very top end of the range, there’s the B’Twin Ultra 940 AF and CF , a super lightweight machine that’s built for speed and comes equipped with a Shimano Dura Ace 9100 groupset. With a small saddle bag means you can carry these tools so they’re always on your bike when you need them. Punctures are rare but unavoidable part of road cycling and it pays to be prepared so you don’t get caught out 40 miles from home with no mobile phone reception. The Triban 100is an ideal first road bike for a new cyclist and comes in a wide range of sizes. Designed and tested in Flanders, near the famous cobbles of the Paris-Roubaix, Decathlon bikes have become globally recognized for their performance and value.

There was also a number of small scratches on the frame and pedal crank which I did not expect from a brand new bike costing £500. The gear indexing is still not perfect and I hope to have this rectified decathlon road bike when I can visit my local store. Modern road bikes require very little maintenance, many will provide many happy hours of cycling between servicing, there really is very little to go wrong.
